Ikea Announces Recent Recall of Child Safety Gates

Unfortunately, everyday products can sometimes injure or otherwise harm consumers. Consumers may sometimes be placed in danger from a dangerous or defective product and not be aware of the concern. In some circumstances, the recall process may help provide greater awareness of dangerous or defective products. Retail chain store Ikea recently announced a recall for a child safety gate due to consumer injury concerns.

According to the recall, the friction between the pressure-mounted safety gate and the wall is not sufficient to hold the gate in place, which creates a falling hazard. In addition, a lower metal bar that is part of the gate can present a tripping hazard. There have been 18 reported incidents worldwide and three children have been reported injured as a result of falling down stairs when the gate presumably failed. Consumers are advised to discontinue use of the safety gate and return it to Ikea for a full refund.

Everyone wants to keep their families safe and child safety is a high priority. Although the recall process is designed to help protect consumers, other options, including legal options, may be available to consumers and their families who are injured or otherwise harmed by dangerous or defective products. Victims of dangerous or defective products may suffer a wide variety of injuries and harm that can include physical, financial and emotional pain, challenges and trauma.

Products liability law holds parties responsible for placing a defective or dangerous product in the hands of consumers liable for the harm that victims suffer. It is important that victims are aware of the options that may be available to them when they face a consumer injury because of an unsafe product.
