The makers of an anti-nausea medication are facing lawsuits alleging the drug harmed children. Research is available that suggests the drug may be fatal for some children. Two children who were given the drug and later died are the subjects of the research. It is alleged that after being given the drug, both children, a 10-year-old and an infant, developed heart problems and subsequently died. There are additional concerns that the drug may lead to birth defects in children.
The drug is approved to treat nausea related to chemotherapy treatments but is frequently also used to treat nausea related to other causes. The drug does specify a warning concerning the risk of heart problems. An additional use that the drug is sometimes prescribed for includes morning sickness in pregnant women. Claims have been made concerning roughly 20 women who had babies with birth defects that may be linked to the use of the drug while pregnant.
